(99.5-03 7.3) Ported Compressor Housing (ON BACKORDER)
Owners of many "modified" 99.5+ 7.3L Powerstroke Diesel Trucks have experienced a condition called Compressor Surge. Surge occurs when the pressure on the discharge side of the compressor exceeds the capability of the turbocharger to continue to move air. A temporary "stall" of the intake airflow occurs until the pressure in the discharge side drops and airflow continues in the "forward" direction again. If the cause of the stall (combination of load, throttle position, etc.) still exists, it will occur again and again. This is called "Pumping" or "Surge" , and will emit a "whoosh whoosh whoosh" sound from the intake tube between the turbo and air filter. Surge may also show up on your boost gauge as a fluctuating needle. IMPORTANT NOTE: Compressor Surge can be very damaging to a turbocharger due to the tremendous thrust load changes on the compressor wheel and shaft. This Ported Shroud Compressor Housing is designed to increase your turbo life by eliminating the damaging effect of compressor surge. The Ported Shroud Compressor Housing is designed with a 4” intake (stock is 3") with an Inducer Bleed Ring. Utilizing a 4” intake results in an increase in choke flow, allowing more air to flow into the compressor wheel. Inducer Bleed acts to broaden the range of the compressor wheel, smooth out air flow, and eliminate turbo compressor surge. While the Ported Shroud Compressor Housing may cost more than other methods of fixing Compressor Surge (like a new compressor wheel), changing the housing doesn't require removal of the turbo or balancing of the rotating assembly. The savings in removal/installation time, downtime and the labor cost of turbo assembly balancing make the Ported Shroud Compressor Housing an excellent choice for solving your compressor surge problem. The turbo is based off our popular QSSB turbocharger, with a few minor modifications allowing for more airflow while still offering quick bottem end response and spool-up. The turbocharger flows over 1150-cfm and will offer extremely low drive pressures, resulting in low exhaust gas temperatures (egt's) and good driving charactersitcs. Isspro Turbo Temp Monitor R4130
This monitor can help eliminate early turbocharger failure in diesel applications. When engine ignition is turned off, the R4130 idles until a safe exhaust temperature is reached, then automatically shuts down the engine. By shutting down in a cool condition, deposits are reduced and turbo life is increased. Standard shutdown temperature is 300° F. Operating voltage is 12 VDC. For installation, the existing pyrometer system can be used or order complete kit below. The TTM is Field adjustable: the temperature set point can be adjusted by removing the cover and rotating the trimmer. Installation requires just 5 connections (lamp indicator optional): 1: Ignition Switch: Keeps engine running. (16AWG wire recommended) 2: Batt+: 12VDC A switch can be inserted in this lead to defeat the TTM. 3: Lamp: an optional indicator lamp can be used to display temperatures above the safe limit when the ignition switch is turned off. 4: GND: Ground 5: T/C-: The thermocouple (-) lead. QSSB Turbo
The WOP QSSB is a Hybrid turbo they developed with Bell Turbo, clear back in 2002. It offers noticebly quicker spool up when compared to the H2E, with a broader compressor map. This means more air flow sooner and for a longer RPM range. Due to turbine wheel profile and turbine housing this turbo uses we have achieved a positive Delta-P. Meaning lower drive pressure than manifold boost pressure. This means nice cool exhaust gas temperatures (EGT's) with great daily driving and towing characterstics. This turbo is sized perfect for anything from stock injectors up to mild Stage II's (400hp). Note: Drive pressure test results were conducted on trucks with stock and stage 1 injectors. Depending on fuel delivery and tuning results will vary.
